Google has introduced a groundbreaking feature to its Gmail app on Android, powered by the Gemini AI model. This new functionality allows users to manage their inbox more intuitively through natural language queries. Previously available only in the Gemini side panel on Gmail’s web version, this feature is now accessible directly within the Android app, making email management more seamless and efficient.
With the new Gmail Q&A feature, users can interact with their emails conversationally. For instance, you can now ask questions like “find all emails from John about the project deadline” or “show unread emails from my boss.” Gemini’s AI capabilities extend to finding specific details within emails, viewing messages from particular senders, or even summarizing emails on specific topics.
Google highlights this as a new, more intuitive way to search your inbox using the power of Gemini AI. The goal is to enhance email management, making it not just faster but also more aligned with how we naturally communicate. To access this feature in the Gmail app on Android, users simply tap the black Gemini star at the top right of their screen or use the “summarise this email” chip within a message.
The rollout of this feature is happening gradually, with a 15-day window for it to become available to all users. However, access to Gmail Q&A requires a Google One AI Premium subscription or a Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium subscription.
In addition, Google has announced that Gmail Q&A will be available on iOS devices soon, bringing this powerful tool to an even broader audience.
